SRA's Continuing Competence New Approach

In light of the SRA's new approach to training do I still need to do CPD?

On 1st April 2015 the SRA announced their new approach to CPD which focuses on solicitors assessing and maintaining their competence. Solicitors now have two options;

follow existing CPD requirements (mandatory 16 hours)
or
transfer to the new competence based scheme.

Regardless of which option you choose, the SRA have emphasised that solicitors will need to review their training needs on a regular basis, and undertake appropriate measures to address any needs identified, as and when required. There is no suggestion that solicitors will no longer require training. Please note the new approach became mandatory for all solicitors from 1st November 2016.
